Ourika Valley from Marrakech: driving time, route and tips
The Ourika Valley is the easiest escape from Marrakech. Setti Fatma, at the end of the road, is about 60 km away: allow 1 to 1h15 without stops, closer to 1h30 with slow traffic through the villages.
When to go
Leave Marrakech early in the morning. At weekends and on very hot days the road fills up quickly and the car parks near the waterfalls are full by late morning. Weekdays are much calmer.
The road
It is paved and well kept, but full of bends and villages to cross. Drive slowly: pedestrians, scooters and animals do not always see you coming. A compact car is easier to park in the villages, while an SUV is more comfortable if you like sitting higher.
What to do
- The Setti Fatma waterfalls: about an hour on foot, with a few rocky sections. Wear proper shoes and bring water.
- Lunch on a terrace by the river, lovely when it is hot.
- Saffron, argan oil and honey cooperatives along the roadside.
- The Monday souk in Tnine Ourika, if your trip falls on that day.
In winter
Weather changes fast in the High Atlas. If you plan to go higher towards Oukaimeden, check road and snow conditions before you leave.
For the day, pick a car with air conditioning and unlimited mileage. See our cars, or book directly.
