Ouzoud Waterfalls from Marrakech: how to get there by car
The Ouzoud Waterfalls, near Azilal, drop around a hundred metres into a green setting. From Marrakech it is roughly 150 to 170 km and nearly 3 hours by road. It makes a long day: leave early and come back in the late afternoon, or stay the night nearby.
What time to leave
Around 7 am. You get there before the crowds, enjoy the morning light on the falls and are back in Marrakech before dark. Driving mountain roads at night is not a good idea.
The season
The falls are most impressive in spring when the flow is strong. In summer there is less water but the pools below are still great for a swim. Check the weather: after heavy rain some paths are slippery.
On site
- A guarded car park at the entrance, a few dirhams.
- A path running down alongside the falls, with restaurant terraces.
- Barbary macaques: do not feed them and keep your bags closed.
- Boats to get close to the foot of the falls, to be agreed on price before boarding.
What to bring
Water, shoes with grip, a change of clothes if you want to swim, and some cash. Fill up the tank before leaving Marrakech.
A comfortable, air-conditioned car makes a big difference on a six-hour round trip. Pick yours, unlimited mileage.
